A little motivation.....to help keep things in perspective
I know, I know many of you are all getting a wee bit frustrated with the whole agency thing. TRUST ME....I'm right there with you in solidarity. Smile.
But I ran across this interview the other day on the internet and, I must say, it stopped me dead in my tracks. I submit this to you in hopes that it will help you take solace in knowing that even some Top Name stars have gone through what we're going through. This is an excerpt from an interview with award winning stage and film star Jeffrey Wright (Syriana, Shaft, Angels in America, Basquiat, etc.) Enjoy! The entire interview can be found at: www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1285/is_7_30/ai_64702681
MARTHA FRANKEL: Before Basquiat was released, there was all this hype about how great your performance was, how you were a shoe-in for an Oscar nomination. How do you steel yourself and keep it all in perspective?
JEFFREY WRIGHT: Before I did Basquiat, I had already won the Tony for Angels in America. But I still couldn't get an agent! I had dropped my agent at some point during the run of Angels, and it took me about a year and a half after winning a Tony to get another one. So that kind of makes you cautious about things. And I've never lost that caution. And for some reason, the work I do sometimes is perceived as not being accessible to a greater audience.
My mouth dropped when I was reading this interview. The brother won a Tony on Broadway and couldn't get an agent for over a year?! Your kidding me right?! Damn, maybe I need to rethink whinning about my past 3 months without a theatrical agent. Think about how the agents that passed on him must feel right about now. They must be sick! Agents out there who read my Blog (and I know you're out there) take note. Give a brother a call! Like Biggie Smalls used to say.."You know you love me!" Smile.
The point I'm trying to make here people is for you to stay focused, keep driving and never, ever give up...Tomorrow could be the big day! As I always say to my friends..."It's like the lottery, you have to be in it to win it." Some negative people may say only a small percentage make it in this business...that may be true but 100% of those who quit or never try will never make it. I'll take my small percentage thank you.

TV Audition: "Las Vegas” @ Liberman/Patton Casting. I read for the role of a Uniformed Police Officer.
This was great because I met with two young ladies from that office last night at a workshop....and this morning I was called to come in and audition in the afternoon.
One word - AWESOME! I'm hoping that means I made a great impression. (Note - Angel being modest here people. smile.)
Everyone at the office was great and I had already met another young lady (who taped the session) at a previous workshop. I saw some other actor friends that I know from attending workshops. So the overall vibe was wonderful and I felt good about my read. Hey, I was even complemented on my cologne....Does it get any better? Getting the part WOULD be the icing on the cake. (That's in God's hands now.) Still, I'll take a compliment when I can get it.
