Industrial Audition: "Boeing” @ Pemrick/Fronk Casting.
I read for the role of Red.

Okay, I'll be honest. I don't normally do industrial auditions anymore. For those who don't know: industrials are basically training videos. Such as sexual harrasment videos, ethics videos, airline seatbelt & "In case of an emergency, your
seat cushion can be used as a flotation device" videos.
You get the picture.

In truth, Industrials are a great way to make money. They're SAG rates. You work with a Director, you have a script, sound person, make-up, lighting, etc. Except it's on a much smaller scale.

Back on the east coast, I used to be the king of the industrials. I've probably done around 25-30 of them. I've even done some classified industrials. Now THAT was a unique experience! Since I already had the TOP SECRET clearances, I would go to a classified government agency and get paid to study and memorize the script. Since the scripts were classified...that was the only way for me to work on them.

When I knew I was moving out to Cali....I decided to stop auditioning for them. (I would still do them if I was given a straight offer from a company I've worked with before.) My thinking was that although it's cool work and for decent money....It doesn't help my resume in Hollywood and my focus was all about my life chaging move out to Cali. I didn't want to one day be a big star and then having all these training videos of me doing corny dialogue and such selling on eBay! As my singing coach (Imani) once told me..."All exposure is not good exposure. Choose projects that are going to help you get to where you're going."

Then my manager at the time, dropped a great piece of advice on me. She said "Angel, Who do you think is casting the Industrials? The same people that cast the movies and TV shows out here!" The light bulb turned on...She was absolutely right!

So fast forward back to yesterday. My first thought was....an audition for an industrial. Then I thought....Hmmm, I've met the casting director @ workshops before...He does lots of films and he's awesome. I would just love the opportunity to book something from his office. Not to mention....the shoot is in Hawaii! Yeah! Tell me about it!

So needless to say, I went to the audition and did my best! I felt good about it and now it's in God's Hands! On to the next one!

Feature Film Audition: "Circles and Edges” @ Nikki Hoard Casting. I read for the role of Tommy.

And.....Action!...........Cut!

Well folks, as I like to say....It's a Wrap! This week I shot
my scenes for the film "King of California". It was awesome, awesome, awesome.

For those of you who don't know or might be curious. The
saying is true. The hard work is getting the part. After
that....it's fun. You have opportunities to network, make
new friends, etc. You have people waiting on you hand and
foot. The food is GREAT! It must be awesome to be a series
regular or working on films regularly. Sigh. God Willing, that'll
be me one day! Still, no complaints here...I'm truly Blessed!

Having said all that about it being fun, you STILL have to do
your thing. It is a JOB! For example, there was an actor
(sorry, I can't go there.....let's just say he was the 3rd Lead
of the film!) who had to be replaced. OUCH! Are you kidding
me?! Do you know how much money that will cost the film?
With having to reshoot all the scenes that he was already in?

The ONLY reason I mention that is to use it as a lesson for
myself and my fellow actors. Don't get too cocky people. It's
still a job! In MY OPINION, as an Actor, I see it as a privelege
to do this line of work...and get paid for it. (I still don't get
how some actors don't sign autographs, complain about the
fans, not having privacy, yada, yada, yada.) This is the
BUSINESS you are in. Know that! Again, the point here folks
is to stay focused, have fun, enjoy the moment.....but stay focused.

(My glass half-full moment would have to be: Who knows,
they may have to call me back to re-shoot the scenes that
I did with the actor who was replaced. No complaints here!)

Well that's it for now. On to the next one! Please keep me in your prayers! Tks.

Crickets.......It's pretty quiet out here.

Well folks, May has officially started off very, very slow
for me. As you may or may not know, most of the Network
Television shows have wrapped and are now on hiatus.

Still there is SOME work out there (Cable Telvision shows
and Feature Films are going strong right now.) I've been
fortunate to get a few auditions but haven't heard anything
as of yet. Please keep me in your prayers.

In the meantime, I'm still doing my hustle: Doing drop-offs,
attending workshops, taking classes, etc. My manager has
been doing a great job of making some pitches on my behalf
and following up on some leads for me. For instance,
Lee Daniels who directed "Shadowboxer" is going to direct a new film "Iced" which will be starring Lenny Kravitz. When I
attended a screening of Shadowboxer, he mentioned how
much he liked my work and how he would like me to be a part
of "Iced". You know me, I'm like "Uhhhh, Yeah!"

Even though this business is sooo huge and vast, you would
be suprised how small it can be too. In my opinion, much of
it is about establishing and maintaining relationships. Still,
at the end of the day, you have to "BRING IT" too! I recall
Spike Lee's movies when he first hit the scene and we would
see so many of the same actors in each of his films. They
were actors that he could trust and deilvered time after time.
He in turn kept them employed....One hand washes the other.
The same could be said about other legendary directors
Scorsese, Tarantino, Howard, etc.

But you still have to be ready when your number is called!
So, here's to Lee Daniels, Michael Cahill, and all the new
up and coming directors out there. I look forward to working
with you again in the future. I'll be ready!
