Spring cleaning continues..planting new seeds!
PRODUCER'S SESSION/CALLBACK!!!:
"Wizards Of Waverly Place" @ Lambert/McGee Casting.
------
Just signed with a new commercial agency! I'm very excited about them and they're very excited about me. Quite frankly, my previous agency just didn't get me out any more. Before you all think I've gone crazy and just started replacing everyone on my team just for the sake of change itself. (Okay, I'm really just saying this to convince myself. I'm mentally burned out here people! Smile.) That is not the case. This move was done with much thought, consideration and prayer. I never rush to make moves unless I have to....and I try to keep myself in a position where I don't have to rush. I like to take my time and look at the big picture.
Those of you who have followed my journey for the past year and a half know that when I first signed with my commercial agent, I was going out at least 2-3 times a week! Sometimes even 2-3 a day! Yeah...it was awesome. A number of times I
had callbacks and twice I even had 2nd Callbacks (which is rare - meaning that I auditioned a total of 3 times for the spot....and I was REALLY close to booking them). Still, I hadn't booked a commercial since my move.
As time went on...I don't know, seems like the excitement over me must have gone or something. Maybe since I didn't book anything...I was considered the weakest link. (I don't agree with that obviously...I'm just reaching here people.) I thought maybe it was my headshots...no, because I was going out all the time before. Maybe it was me...no, because I was doing on-camera commercial classes and getting callbacks. To be honest, I just felt like I was forgotten about. I've only been on one commercial audition in the past six months...and that was through my previous manager not my commercial agent! There's a problem there.
On occasion I would remind my agency that I was still here and ready to work. Sometimes in a playful way and sometimes a bit more sternly (but always with love and respect of course). Every time, I was told that they would get me out more often. Alas, things didn't change and Daddy had to make a move. That's totally not to bad mouth the agency. In fact, I have a few friends that are there, that do get out and have booked a few spots! I wish everyone at Commercial Talent nothing but the best. They were my first agency once I moved out here to Cali and you never forget your first! Awww...sniffle, sniffle. But as the saying goes - one size doesn't always fit all.
Speaking of size, I used to be of the opinion that the size or reputation of the commercial agency was one of the main factors when making a decision on commercial representation. I totally disagree with that now. Although that may still be the case in theatrical representation (and even that is debatable - depending on where you are in your career), the key factor is do you get submitted in a timely fashion? Commercial casting is pretty much 99.9% electronic. It's a commercial people! 30 seconds! It's more about your look (to get you the audition) and can you sell their product. Does your personality come through? Do you promote the "HERO" product? Do you talk directly to that one viewer? Do you have a "button" at the end of your take? It's NOT about your agency. I say this because I know a number of friends who are with little tiny commercial agencies and they're booking all over the place! And I'm so happy for them! Again, it's about getting submitted in a timely fashion more than anything else. NOT the size or the name. Just my opinion.
I've learned so much about this business...in such a short time. When to be patient and see if things will pan out....or when to say, it's time to make a move. Speaking from my previous work experiences, I've often told friends that the best time to find a job is when you have a job. That's when you can be selective. You can find a situation better then the current one you're in. Same thing goes with representation. Having said that, I am soooo not the person who likes to jump around all over the place. Man, I don't have time for that and I know the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Still, I need all the members of my team to work just as hard as I do. Doesn't make sense for me to work so hard at this...and have someone just cruising along.
Hey, at least that's the way I look at things. I may be wrong, I may be right. Only time will tell. (Honestly, I feel I already know. smile.) I have a good feeling about this move and all my recent moves. It's also a great feeling when the people you work with are truly excited about working with you! I feel everyone is trying to step up their game...myself included.
I'm simply following the signs that are in my path. I'm looking forward to seeing what fruit these new seeds will grow. Please keep me in your prayers.
